Curzen experiments drone delivery

We are proud to be part of a series of ground-breaking trials with leading NGOs exploring drone delivery in Somalia. Early this year we joined up with a group of African companies to deliver mail and goods to a remote lighthouse near the islands of Somalia, which are located adjacent to the Gulf of Aden to the north, the Guardafui Channel at the apex of its territory, and the Somali Sea to the east. This year, the trials have taken a step further, with drone flights to remote communities in Somaliland. The project includes partnership with the NGOs to deliver essential humanitarian goods, PPE and COVID test kits to remote communities.

Why use drone delivery?

Some areas of Somalia are difficult to reach for humanitarian goods and essential services, due to geographical obstacles, harsh weather and tricky delivery routes. With a big increase in parcel delivery volumes since the start of the pandemic, we are also seeing higher carbon emissions due to the number of delivery vehicles on the roads. These problems are difficult to solve – but drones could help. Drones offer a convenient, reliable alternative to traditional delivery options. They can travel over moutnains and waterways, they don’t get stuck in traffic and they can be eco-friendly and easy to manage.

In collaboration with our partners and stakeholders, and thanks to our teams on the ground, we are proud of leveraging technology to assist NGOs in delivering essential kits and products to remote communities.- Abshir Aden
